After finally being able to go to bed on Thursday night (so, so late for our normal time zone), we woke up refreshed and decided what to do for the day. In the morning, our friend Becky drove us to Pearl Harbor, which is just 3 miles from their home. You can get free tickets for a video and boat ride to the USS Arizona memorial the day of. The tickets we picked up were for about an hour after our arrival. In the meantime, we were able to explore the museum, which was informative and fascinating. I think we read nearly everything there was to read, so that tells you how interesting it was. We didn't get thru the whole museum before our boat tour, so we returned afterward as well. The video before the boat tour was really well done and helped set a serious tone for the experience. It was eerie to see the USS Arizona where so many people lost their lives during the Pearl Harbor attack and to think about how this major historical event was really only 75 or so years ago.

After our Pearl Harbor experience, we decided to walk the 3 miles uphill back to Brian and Becky's house. Thankfully we experienced a nice breeze and even some light rain most of the way to help cool us down. And, the view was great! It also helped that we made an impulsive stop half way through our hike at a Wendy's to grab a frosty to cool down.

When Brian got home from work we had delicious homemade pizzas for dinner and then left for Waikiki. Waikiki is a very touristy part of Honolulu with lots of fancy hotels right on the ocean. We went to people watch and see the fireworks they do every Friday night. It was fun exploring the area, seeing Honolulu all lit up at night, and walking right along the beach.

It was a great day, and we're really loving spending time with good friends. More adventures tomorrow!
