Melbourne Cuisine

We've had the opportunity to try some amazing food from street festivals, markets, and restaurants of Melbourne!

Al Alamy Middle Eastern food in Coburg

Labne pizza, cheese and spinach saaj, dip with rocket, feta, and red pepper

Fantastic city market with clothes, trinkets, food court, produce, meat, nuts, spices, deli, bread, cheese, and about anything else you can imagine

Borek = a bread/pastry filled with spinach, cheese, lamb, potato, etc

Eating our boreks and nutella banana pastry

The way our host recommends eating Vegemite: On toast with avocado. It was okay. I still had to have a few spoonfuls of ice cream afterward to get the Vegemite taste out of my mouth

Meat pies are an Australian thing. We had a steak and onion and a bacon, cheese, and tomato. They were very filling.

Sri Lankan food from a Malaysia Street Festival: Rice, chickpeas, and several different types of curry--vegetable, chicken, butter chicken, goat, and more. So, so, so amazing.

Chicken satay being cooked over open flames at the Malaysia Street Festival

Devouring tasty satay with cucumbers and peanut sauce

We mostly do our own cooking to stay on budget, but with the diversity of delicious food here I'm sure we'll be going out to eat a few more times before we leave. We're hoping that Thailand will be a culinary experience that is just as fun and interesting.
