Spending Time in Altona

Altona, where we're staying, is a beautiful place to spend our time. There are many parks, walkways, nature preserves, and beach views. Today it reached 90 degrees, so we decided it was time to go to the beach and actually go into the water. The tide was out, so we walked over the left behind seaweed baking in the sun and a long stretch of beach. The water only came up to our knees and looked like it didn't deepen til you were far, far out. The cool water felt refreshing against our skin and we had stopped at a store to get a tennis ball to toss around. The water was very clear, but the only critter we saw in the water was a crab. At the shoreline, we saw clear, c-shaped squishy objects that we guessed were jellyfish, but as they had no streamers, so we weren't sure. Later, a google search indicated that they were indeed jellyfish, but with no risk of dangerous stings. We did fully submerge ourselves eventually, but I must admit that I am always hesitant in the ocean...it just feels so much more alive than Lake Michigan!

Shadows and feet in the water

Trying out the teeter totter swing

It's a jellyfish!
